The technology has been proven in our labs in London, Ontario and ENEA demonstration facility in Italy. Now we are constructing a 60 million pound per year facility in Sarnia, Ontario that will be the first commercial-scale facility in the world to convert agricultural residues into high-quality, sustainable ingredients.
Italy Demonstration Plant
Located at the ENEA Trisaia Research Center, Comet’s technology has been operating at a demonstration scale since 2012. The ENEA facility, owned by ENEA, processes up to 10 MT per day of biomass and has been used to demonstrate continuous operation on wood and agricultural residues of various kinds. Material from this plant is used for end-market sampling and user acceptance trials.
Sarnia Commercial Facility
Comet is developing a 60 million pound per year facility in Sarnia, Ontario. The company anticipates it will be the first commercial plant of plant-based sugar technology in the world. The plant is scaled to showcase the process and validate key operating metrics necessary to construct additional commercial projects. Products from the facility, produced from underutilized Ontario agricultural and forestry residues, in partnership with the Cellulosic Sugar Producers Co-op, will be sold to food, feed and industrial customers throughout North America.
At our product laboratory, the team performs detailed analysis of the sustainable ingredients that are produced at our Italy Demonstration Plant. We subject our ingredients to various tests to ensure they are of the highest quality and consistency and ready for use by our customers. Our lab is also where we prepare and ship product samples to all of our customers.
The global headquarters of Comet Biorefining,Inc. is strategically located in the Blue Water Energy Park in Sarnia, Ontario which is also the future site of its commercial scale sustainable ingredient facility.
